DESCRIPTION:
APW - Hamilton, Grade 992 Special, "Hamilton Adjusted For Railroad Service 21 Jewels 8 Adjustments" marked dial, 21J, 16S, gold-filled OF Hamilton case, cuvette with signature ring, white enamel DS dial, time-zone hour hands, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, gilt mvt screws and regulator assembly, two-tone checkerboard pattern gilt and nickel damascene, s#2559297. A scarce and desirable railroad watch, this variant with "992 Special" marked movement and "8 Adjustments" marking above the dial seconds-register represents Hamilton's final version of the Grade 992 "Adjusted For Railroad Service" marked watch. Like nearly all known examples, this movement has a secondary number (37022 in this instance) scratched in small size on the plate surface adjacent to the factory serial number. CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, nearly mint cosmetic mvt condition overall, good two-tone color, few mild micro-fine scratches, few very small surface spots; dial with extremely small bits of white fill material to the seating of its center section evident upon very close inspection indicating re-securing of dial components and suggesting possibility of dial's outer chapter and/or seconds-register having been replacements taken from another Hamilton dial as a "donor," dial with very faint hl below seconds-register at 6, extremely faint outer chapter hl at 10, some perimeter rub in areas under bezel; excellent time-zone hour hands and seconds-hand, fair minute hand has been overpainted in black; case shows little wear, some dings at rear perimeter, some nicks to band, good overall engine turning detail with some reduction at shoulder; tight bow, crown shows light wear; good glass crystal.
